Calls Upon Young Indians to Become Job Creators, Problem-Solvers and Catalysts of Positive Change
Lucknow, August 29: Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh on Saturday called upon India’s youth to acquire knowledge, question injustice through constitutional means and bring about social change through democratic methods.
Addressing students at the convocation ceremony of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University in Lucknow, Singh highlighted Dr BR Ambedkar’s message of “Educate, Agitate and Organise”, explaining that the principle advocates acquiring knowledge, questioning injustice without violence and uniting people to bring about change through constitutional and democratic means.
‘Reject the Grammar of Anarchy’
Referring to Dr Ambedkar’s final address to the Constituent Assembly, the Raksha Mantri said social and economic objectives must be pursued through constitutional avenues.
He stressed that when democratic and constitutional mechanisms are available, there can be no justification for violence, anarchy or unconstitutional methods. Such practices, he said, constitute the “grammar of anarchy” and must be rejected.
Singh said universities must play a key role in nurturing young minds based on the principles of justice, equality, liberty and fraternity.
Education Must Build Character and Problem-Solving Skills
The Raksha Mantri emphasised that true education is not limited to academic achievement. It should develop the ability to think, understand and solve problems while instilling moral values and sensitivity towards society.
Recalling Dr Ambedkar’s emphasis on character and humility, Singh said knowledge and achievements must always be accompanied by ethical conduct and a strong sense of responsibility.
He also invoked the vision of Swami Vivekananda, urging young people to look beyond personal success and contribute towards the transformation of the country.
Youth Urged to Become Job Creators
Calling the youth the driving force behind India’s future, Singh urged them to become job creators, problem-solvers and catalysts of positive change rather than limiting themselves to seeking employment.
He said rapid technological development and innovation are creating new opportunities, and those who continuously learn and acquire new skills will be better prepared for the changing global environment.
The Raksha Mantri also called upon young Indians to work collectively as ‘Team India’ and contribute towards achieving the goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
‘Turn Challenges into Opportunities’
Singh said success is often achieved in difficult circumstances rather than favourable ones. He encouraged students to face uncertainty with determination, resilience and hard work.
Highlighting the government’s efforts over the past decade, he said initiatives under Aatmanirbhar Bharat, semiconductor manufacturing, digital public infrastructure, startups and the manufacturing sector are aimed at converting challenges into opportunities.
He urged students to focus on solutions, remain committed to self-improvement and develop the confidence to experiment with new ideas.
India’s Space and Innovation Ecosystem Expanding
The Raksha Mantri highlighted India’s growing capabilities in the space sector, noting the country’s transition from undertaking missions with limited resources to pursuing advanced programmes, including human spaceflight and an Indian space station.
He also underlined the increasing contribution of the private sector, with Indian space startups making progress in launch vehicles and satellite technology.
Singh said India’s education, research and innovation ecosystem has witnessed significant progress, with research and development expenditure doubling and the introduction of the National Education Policy after 34 years.
He noted that Indian youngsters are excelling in international Olympiads, launching startups, building unicorns and developing advanced technologies.
Government to Create More Opportunities for Youth
Singh said India is increasingly emerging as a global innovation powerhouse, with the country improving its position in the Global Innovation Index and becoming the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem.
He assured the youth that the government would continue creating an ecosystem where they can explore, innovate, experiment and create, enabling them to develop solutions for a better society.
‘Economic Strength Makes a Nation Prosperous, Culture Makes It Great’
The Raksha Mantri also stressed that India’s development cannot be measured solely through economic growth.
He said economic strength makes a nation prosperous, while cultural self-confidence makes it great, urging young Indians to take pride in the country’s civilisation, heritage, languages and knowledge traditions.
Singh said the journey towards Viksit Bharat and Aatmanirbhar Bharat must therefore combine economic progress with cultural confidence and a strong sense of national identity.
‘Believe in India’ Behind the Success of Make in India
Highlighting India’s growing global stature, Singh said the country is increasingly confident in its civilisation, culture and potential.
He said the younger generation today has greater faith in India’s identity and future, describing this as an important transformation in ‘New India’.
According to Singh, the spirit of ‘Believe in India’ lies behind the success of ‘Make in India’, reflecting growing confidence in India’s ability to innovate, manufacture and compete globally.
Message to Graduates
The Raksha Mantri’s address placed the youth at the centre of India’s development journey, combining his message of constitutional democracy, innovation, entrepreneurship, self-reliance and cultural confidence.
He urged the graduating students to use their education not merely for personal advancement but as a means to serve society, solve problems and contribute towards building a stronger and more developed India.
Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University Vice-Chancellor Prof Raj Kumar Mittal, along with faculty and staff members, were present during the convocation.
