SOG Jammu apprehends accused wanted in 13 FIRs; two alleged associates also arrested in Delhi operation

Jammu, September 23, 2026:
The Jammu Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG) has arrested Karanjit Singh alias “Gugga” from Delhi, bringing an end to a nearly seven-month search for the accused who had allegedly escaped from the R.S. Pura Observation Home along with two Pakistani inmates earlier this year.

Two alleged associates, identified as Naresh Kumar alias “Major” and Rahul Kumar alias “Sundi”, were also arrested during the operation in Delhi, according to police.

Police said Karanjit Singh, son of Arjun Singh and a resident of Dablehar in R.S. Pura, was wanted in connection with 13 FIRs involving allegations ranging from murder and attempted murder to assault, rioting, criminal intimidation and illegal possession of weapons.

Seven-Month Search Ends in Delhi

Karanjit Singh had allegedly escaped from the R.S. Pura Observation Home in February 2026 along with two Pakistani inmates.

According to police, personnel on duty at the facility were allegedly assaulted during the escape, with firing also reported inside the observation home. A separate case, FIR No. 39/2026, was subsequently registered at R.S. Pura police station in connection with the escape.

The two Pakistani inmates were subsequently apprehended, while Karanjit Singh remained at large.

Police continued efforts to trace him for several months before locating him in Delhi. Reports said he was subsequently arrested by the SOG team and is being brought back to Jammu for further investigation.

Wanted in 13 Criminal Cases

Police said Karanjit Singh is an accused in the Gataroo murder case and is also facing allegations in several other criminal cases.

The cases reportedly include allegations of:

  • Murder
  • Attempt to murder
  • Assault
  • Rioting
  • Criminal intimidation
  • Illegal possession of weapons

The 13 FIRs represent cases registered against him and should not be treated as convictions.

Two Alleged Associates Also Held

During the same Delhi operation, SOG Jammu arrested two alleged associates.

Naresh Kumar alias “Major”, son of Kamal Kumar and a resident of Arnia, was identified by police as an alleged associate of the gang. Police said he has been involved in cases relating to violent assault, rioting and illegal possession of weapons and is also stated to be a close associate of absconder Sunil Kumar alias “Gokul.”

The second arrested associate was identified as Rahul Kumar alias “Sundi”, son of Bishan Dass and a resident of Makhanpur in Bishnah.

According to police, Rahul Kumar is facing a case concerning the alleged smuggling of narcotics into jail premises and has been booked under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act and the Prisons Act.

Probe Into Wider Criminal Network

The arrests form part of an ongoing investigation by Jammu Police and the SOG into organised criminal networks and absconders operating in and around Jammu.

Investigators are expected to question the arrested men about their movements after the February escape, their alleged associates and their activities while they remained at large.

Police have also indicated that further arrests could follow depending on evidence emerging during the investigation.

The Delhi operation is particularly significant for the investigation into the R.S. Pura Observation Home escape, as questioning of Karanjit Singh could provide information about how he remained untraceable for several months and who allegedly assisted him during that period.
