Jammu, August 26, 2026: In a major intelligence-led operation, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Jammu has busted an alleged cross-border heroin trafficking network, seizing 5.160 kg of heroin and arresting three suspected drug traffickers, including the alleged mastermind of the network.
The operation began on August 22, following specific intelligence inputs. NCB officials intercepted a vehicle at Panjtirthi in Jammu, where a search led to the recovery of 5.160 kg of heroin from two accused persons, both residents of Baramulla.
Following the seizure, investigators launched an immediate follow-up operation based on leads pointing towards another Baramulla resident who was allegedly operating as the mastermind and supplier of the trafficking network.
The suspect was subsequently traced to Leh, Ladakh, where the NCB team arrested him on August 24, just two days after the initial seizure.
Pakistan Link Under Investigation
According to the preliminary investigation, the seized heroin is suspected to be part of an organised cross-border supply chain. The NCB suspects that the contraband may have originated in Pakistan and entered India through the Uri border sector.
Investigators are now working to establish the complete network, including the alleged cross-border suppliers, financial channels, transporters, local associates and the intended distribution network.
The agency said the swift arrest of the alleged mastermind highlights its focus on dismantling the wider trafficking network rather than limiting action to couriers and drug seizures.
Sustained Anti-Narcotics Operations
The latest action comes amid a series of heroin seizures by NCB Jammu this month. The agency had earlier seized 438 grams of heroin on August 12 and 603 grams on August 13, indicating sustained intelligence-led operations against narcotics trafficking in the region.
Further investigation is underway to uncover the cartel’s forward and backward linkages and identify other individuals involved in the alleged network.
The NCB has urged citizens to support the fight against drug trafficking and addiction by sharing credible information through the National Narcotics Helpline, MANAS (1933). The agency said information can be shared confidentially.
The operation reinforces the NCB’s stated commitment to sustained action against organised drug-trafficking networks and the broader goal of a Nasha Mukt Bharat.
