JAMMU, August 10: Chief of the Army Staff General Dhiraj Seth is scheduled to visit Jammu on August 11 for a fresh assessment of the security situation and operational preparedness in areas under the jurisdiction of the Western Command.
According to a report by , Gen Seth is expected to visit forward areas in the Jammu sector, including Domana and Akhnoor, during his one-day visit.
Focus on Forward Areas and Operational Preparedness
The Army Chief is expected to be accompanied by the Western Army Commander, the Commander of 9 Corps and other senior Army officers.
During the visit, Gen Seth is expected to review the prevailing security situation in forward areas and interact with field commanders to assess operational preparedness and the challenges being faced along the sensitive border belt.
The visit assumes significance as the Akhnoor sector marks the beginning of the Line of Control (LoC) in the Jammu region, while Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts fall under the operational responsibility of the Western Command.
Although the BSF remains the frontline force along the International Border (IB) in Jammu, Samba and Kathua, the Army maintains a significant operational role, particularly in areas adjoining the LoC.
Third J&K-Ladakh Visit in Just Over a Month
The upcoming Jammu visit will be Gen Seth’s third tour of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh in around a month, highlighting the Army leadership’s continued focus on the security situation along the northern and western fronts.
After taking over as Chief of the Army Staff on June 30, Gen Seth undertook a three-day visit to Jammu & Kashmir from July 7 to 9.
During that visit, he reviewed formations and forward areas in Srinagar, Kashmir, Udhampur, Nagrota, Rajouri, Poonch and Sunderbani, including areas along the LoC.
He subsequently visited Kargil on July 25-26 during the Kargil Vijay Diwas commemorations.
Heightened Vigilance Along Western Front
The latest visit comes amid continued security vigilance along the LoC and International Border in Jammu and Kashmir.
Daily Excelsior reported that the overall situation along the LoC and IB has remained near normal, while also citing reports of increased Pakistani military presence opposite Rajouri and Poonch following unrest in Pakistan-occupied Jammu Kashmir.
The report also mentions attempts to facilitate infiltration along the LoC, which have reportedly been foiled by Indian troops. These claims are attributed to the report and have not been independently verified.
Army Chief to Return to Delhi
During his August 11 visit, Gen Seth is expected to review the situation on the ground, interact with commanders and assess the preparedness of troops deployed in the forward areas.
He is expected to return to New Delhi the same evening.
The visit comes at a time when maintaining high operational readiness along the Jammu-Pakistan border and LoC remains a key priority for the Indian Army.
