New Delhi, June 27: The Government of India has issued a strong clarification rejecting what it described as the deliberate misrepresentation of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s address in Parliament on July 28, 2025, concerning Operation Sindoor. The Ministry of Defence said certain social media posts have selectively quoted a portion of the Defence Minister’s speech to falsely suggest that he claimed no Indian soldier lost his life during the operation. The government termed these claims “factually incorrect” and “deliberately misleading.”
Government Says Remarks Taken Out of Context
According to the official statement, the controversy has arisen because only an isolated portion of the Defence Minister’s speech has been circulated without its full context. The ministry clarified that Rajnath Singh’s remarks were specifically aimed at countering false reports circulating at the time that claimed Indian Air Force pilots had been killed during Operation Sindoor. The government said those reports were entirely baseless and were being amplified to undermine the success of the military operation and weaken public confidence.
Statement Was Meant to Counter False Narrative
The Ministry of Defence emphasised that the Defence Minister’s remarks were a direct response to the misinformation surrounding alleged losses of Indian pilots and were never intended to deny the sacrifices made by personnel from the Indian Armed Forces. It said the speech addressed a “mischievous narrative” that was gaining traction on social media and in sections of the media, making it necessary to clarify the facts before Parliament.
Operation Sindoor Highlighted as a Major Military Success
The government reiterated that Rajnath Singh’s parliamentary address was primarily focused on highlighting the achievements of Operation Sindoor. According to the statement, the operation demonstrated the precision, professionalism and operational capability of the Indian Armed Forces. The government said the operation resulted in the neutralisation of more than 100 terrorists and Pakistani soldiers, while also inflicting significant damage on Pakistani air bases and military infrastructure along the Line of Control.
Government Reaffirms Respect for Fallen Soldiers
Rejecting allegations that the government had overlooked the sacrifice of fallen soldiers, the Ministry stressed that the Government of India and the Armed Forces remain committed to honouring every soldier who laid down his life in the defence of the nation. It noted that the names of the bravehearts have been inscribed on the National War Memorial in accordance with established procedures. The government also highlighted that it has extended educational, healthcare and other welfare benefits to the families and dependents of the fallen personnel.
Appeal Against Misinformation
The Ministry urged the public and media organisations to avoid spreading misleading or selective interpretations of official statements, particularly on matters relating to national security and the Armed Forces. It said the sacrifices of India’s soldiers deserve the highest degree of dignity and respect, and cautioned that misinformation not only distorts facts but also causes unnecessary distress to the families of those who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation.
