New Delhi, June 28: The Indian Army will participate in the 50th National Day celebrations of Seychelles on June 29, 2026, marking the Golden Jubilee of the island nation’s Independence. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the celebrations as the Guest of Honour, underscoring the deep-rooted strategic partnership and enduring friendship between India and Seychelles.
Assam Regiment to Represent Indian Army
The Indian Army marching contingent comprises 32 personnel from the Assam Regiment and is led by Captain Aryan H. Deolekar. The contingent will march alongside armed forces from Seychelles during the ceremonial parade, symbolising the close defence cooperation and longstanding military ties between the two nations.
In addition to the Army contingent, the Indian Navy is also participating with a marching contingent and a military band, reflecting the expanding maritime partnership between India and Seychelles in the strategically important Indian Ocean Region.
Defence Partnership Built on Mutual Trust
India and Seychelles share decades of close diplomatic and defence relations. Over the years, the partnership has expanded beyond security cooperation to include capacity building, maritime surveillance, hydrographic assistance, infrastructure development, healthcare, education, trade and cultural exchanges.
India has consistently supported Seychelles in strengthening its maritime security capabilities through training programmes, defence equipment, joint exercises and regular deployment of Indian naval assets. The two countries also cooperate closely in combating piracy, illegal fishing, maritime crime and other non-traditional security challenges in the western Indian Ocean.

The participation of Indian Armed Forces contingents in the national celebrations of friendly foreign countries is regarded as an important element of India’s defence diplomacy. The Indian Armed Forces have regularly represented the country at prestigious international ceremonial events. In recent years, Indian contingents participated in the Bastille Day Parade in France in 2023, the Victory Day Parade in Bangladesh in 2021, and the Victory Day Parade in Russia in 2015 and 2020. These appearances reflect India’s growing global defence engagement and its expanding strategic partnerships with friendly nations.
