New Delhi, August 14: Indian Navy’s sail training ship INS Sudarshini has arrived at Ponta Delgada in the Azores, Portugal, as part of its on kigoing Lokayan 2026 voyage.

The ship entered the Portuguese port on August 13, successfully completing a challenging 19-day transoceanic passage across the Atlantic Ocean from Boston, USA.

This marks the second Atlantic crossing by INS Sudarshini, highlighting the endurance, seamanship and professional skills of the ship’s crew.

Warm Welcome by Portuguese Navy

Upon arrival at Ponta Delgada, INS Sudarshini received a warm welcome from the Portuguese Navy.

During the port call, the ship’s Commanding Officer called on Comodoro Luís Nicholson Lavrador, Commander of the Azores Maritime Zone.

The visit will include professional interactions, operational replenishment and cultural exchanges between the two sides.

Strengthening India-Portugal Maritime Ties

The port visit is aimed at further strengthening maritime cooperation and friendship between India and Portugal, while showcasing India’s long and rich maritime heritage.

As part of the Lokayan 2026 voyage, INS Sudarshini has travelled more than 15,000 nautical miles, serving as a floating ambassador of India’s maritime traditions and goodwill.

The successful Atlantic crossing and arrival in Portugal once again highlight the Indian Navy’s emphasis on sail training, international engagement and maritime diplomacy.
