Jammu, June 28: Security arrangements for the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY) 2026 have received a major technological boost with the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) in Jammu emerging as the nerve centre of an advanced, multi-layered surveillance and coordination network. The technology-driven facility is playing a pivotal role in ensuring real-time monitoring, seamless inter-agency coordination and rapid emergency response ahead of the annual pilgrimage, which is scheduled to commence on July 3. The initiative forms part of the Centre’s broader strategy to strengthen security for one of India’s largest and most sensitive religious pilgrimages through the extensive use of smart surveillance and integrated command systems.
Technology at the Heart of Yatra Security
Originally inaugurated in March 2023 under the Smart Cities Mission, the Integrated Command and Control Centre was established to oversee intelligent traffic management and civic operations across Jammu city. For this year’s Amarnath Yatra, however, the facility has assumed an expanded role by bringing multiple government departments and security agencies onto a single digital platform. Officials said the ICCC enables continuous monitoring of the Yatra routes, Bhagwati Nagar base camp, transit camps and other critical installations through an extensive network of surveillance cameras and communication systems.
Over 610 CCTV Cameras Under Constant Watch
According to officials, the command centre is connected to more than 610 CCTV and PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom) cameras installed across Jammu city and key Yatra locations. These cameras provide round-the-clock visual surveillance, enabling security personnel to monitor pilgrim movement, detect suspicious activity and coordinate an immediate response whenever required. The advanced surveillance infrastructure also assists authorities in managing traffic flow, preventing congestion and ensuring the smooth movement of pilgrims travelling towards Kashmir.
Multiple Agencies Working Under One Roof
One of the most significant advantages of the Integrated Command Centre is its ability to bring together several departments under a unified operational framework. The Jammu and Kashmir Police, Traffic Police and Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) are functioning in close coordination through the facility, allowing information to be shared instantly and enabling faster operational decisions.
Officials said this integrated approach eliminates delays caused by inter-departmental communication and significantly improves the efficiency of security operations during the Yatra. The command centre serves as a common platform where multiple agencies can assess situations simultaneously and coordinate responses in real time.
Beyond Security: Civic Services Also Monitored
Apart from security surveillance, the ICCC is also coordinating several essential civic services required for the smooth conduct of the pilgrimage. The Jammu Municipal Corporation is responsible for monitoring sanitation, sewage management, parking facilities, accommodation-related assistance, transportation and other public services. Pilgrims can seek assistance through dedicated helpline numbers integrated with the command centre, allowing authorities to respond quickly to grievances and emergencies.
Multi-Layered Security Grid Ahead of July 3
The deployment of the Integrated Command Centre complements the broader multi-layered security grid being implemented across Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the pilgrimage. Security arrangements include extensive CCTV surveillance, AI-assisted monitoring, anti-drone systems, Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs), Road Opening Parties (ROPs), bomb disposal squads, sniffer dog units and intensified deployment of the Army, CRPF, BSF, SSB and Jammu and Kashmir Police along both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes. Union Home Minister Amit Shah had earlier directed all agencies to establish an impregnable, technology-driven security grid for the pilgrimage.

Officials believe the combination of advanced surveillance technology, real-time coordination and multi-agency collaboration will significantly enhance the safety and management of the Amarnath Yatra. With thousands of pilgrims expected to undertake the annual pilgrimage beginning July 3, the Integrated Command and Control Centre is expected to play a crucial role in maintaining law and order, facilitating emergency response and ensuring a safe, secure and hassle-free pilgrimage for devotees travelling to the holy cave shrine.
