Coimbatore: In a significant boost to India’s rapidly expanding space sector, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has inaugurated a state-of-the-art Satellite Assembly & Integration Facility at its Precision Manufacturing Systems Complex (PMSC) in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.
The new facility has been designed to support the assembly and integration of large satellites, while also enabling the simultaneous production of multiple small satellites, significantly enhancing India’s indigenous satellite manufacturing capacity.
Advanced Infrastructure for Satellite Manufacturing
The facility is equipped with:
- High-end cleanroom environments
- Advanced satellite integration bays
- Testing and validation stations
- End-to-end spacecraft assembly infrastructure
The new plant is expected to strengthen India’s domestic satellite manufacturing ecosystem and reduce dependence on overseas facilities for spacecraft assembly and integration.
Inaugurated by ISRO Leadership
The facility was inaugurated by M. Sankaran, Director of the U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC), ISRO, in the presence of senior officials from L&T and the Indian space sector.
The inauguration marks another milestone in L&T’s long-standing partnership with ISRO, with the company already contributing to launch vehicles, space hardware, propulsion systems and strategic aerospace programmes.
Boost for India’s Space Ecosystem
With demand for satellites rising rapidly from ISRO, NewSpace India Limited (NSIL) and private space companies, the Coimbatore facility is expected to:
- Increase satellite production capacity.
- Reduce manufacturing turnaround time.
- Support simultaneous integration of multiple spacecraft.
- Strengthen India’s indigenous space supply chain.
- Improve readiness for commercial satellite missions.
