New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki India Limited has commenced commercial production at its fourth manufacturing plant within the Hansalpur facility in Gujarat, marking a significant milestone in the company’s expansion and strengthening India’s position as a global automobile manufacturing hub.
With the commissioning of the new Plant D, Hansalpur has become Suzuki Motor Corporation’s first manufacturing site worldwide to achieve an annual production capacity of one million vehicles at a single location.
Hansalpur Reaches 10 Lakh Annual Production Capacity
The newly operational Plant D has an annual production capacity of 2.5 lakh vehicles, increasing the total production capacity of the Hansalpur complex from 7.5 lakh to 10 lakh units per year.
The achievement makes the Gujarat facility India’s largest single-location passenger vehicle manufacturing plant and Suzuki’s biggest production hub anywhere in the world.
Maruti Suzuki’s India Capacity Rises to 2.9 Million Units
Following the expansion, Maruti Suzuki’s total installed production capacity in India has increased to 2.9 million (29 lakh) vehicles annually across its manufacturing facilities in:
- Gurugram, Haryana
- Manesar, Haryana
- Kharkhoda, Haryana
- Hansalpur, Gujarat
The expanded capacity is expected to help the company meet rising domestic demand while strengthening exports.
New Plant to Manufacture e Vitara EV
The newly commissioned facility will initially manufacture the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, the company’s first all-electric sport utility vehicle (SUV).
The move highlights Maruti Suzuki’s growing focus on electric mobility and aligns with India’s broader push towards cleaner and sustainable transportation.
Major Boost for ‘Make in India’
Industry experts say the expansion reinforces India’s emergence as a key global manufacturing base for small and compact passenger vehicles.
