Kathua Police and Drug Control Department conduct joint action near SDH Billawar; shop sealed over alleged violation of Drugs and Cosmetics Act

Kathua, October 5, 2026: In a coordinated action against the unauthorised possession and sale of habit-forming medicines, J&K Police Kathua, along with the Drug Control Department, sealed a medical shop near Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Billawar after recovering 320 Pregabalin capsules from the premises, police said.

According to a police press release, the action was initiated after Police Station Billawar received a telephonic message regarding a suspected consignment of illicit drugs.

Acting on the information, a police team from Police Station Billawar, accompanied by a Drug Inspector, intercepted and inspected the suspected consignment.

320 Pregabalin Capsules Recovered

During the inspection, the team recovered 320 capsules of Pregabalin 300 mg from Mahajan Medical Agency, located near SDH Billawar, according to police.

Police said the recovered medicine was not accompanied by the required supporting bills or vouchers.

The absence of documentation prompted further action by the authorities, with the consignment being treated as an alleged violation of applicable drug-control regulations.

Medical Shop Sealed

Following the findings, the authorities sealed the medical shop.

Police said the action was taken under Section 22(d) of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, citing alleged unauthorised sale and possession of habit-forming drugs.

The action involved coordination between the local police and the Drug Control Department, highlighting the role of enforcement agencies in checking the unauthorised circulation of medicines that can be misused.

Action Against Unauthorised Drug Sale

The recovery comes amid continued enforcement efforts against the unauthorised possession, storage and sale of medicines that require regulatory oversight.

The authorities’ focus in the case was not only on the quantity of capsules recovered but also on the alleged absence of purchase and sale documentation required for the medicines.

Further legal and regulatory action will depend on the findings of the concerned authorities and investigation into the source and intended distribution of the recovered medicines.
