Jammu/Poonch, July 18: In a major anti-narcotics operation, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Jammu, with the assistance of the Border Security Force (BSF), has seized approximately 5 kilograms of heroin in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The seizure was made during a search operation conducted in Kosalian village, located just a few kilometres from the Line of Control (LoC), following specific intelligence inputs regarding the movement of narcotics.

Intelligence-Based Operation

According to the NCB, the operation was launched after receiving credible intelligence about the presence of contraband in the area. Teams of the NCB, assisted by the BSF, carried out a coordinated search, leading to the recovery of approximately 5 kg of heroin.

Officials believe the seizure has dealt a significant blow to cross-border narcotics trafficking networks operating along the LoC.

One Arrested

The NCB has arrested one person in connection with the case. The accused has been produced before the competent court and remanded to custody for further investigation.

Authorities are questioning the accused to ascertain the source and intended destination of the seized heroin.

Probe Into Drug Trafficking Network

The investigation is now focused on identifying the forward and backward linkages of the smuggling network.

Officials are examining:

  • The origin of the consignment.
  • The intended recipients.
  • Possible cross-border connections.
  • The involvement of other members of the trafficking syndicate.

Further raids and arrests are not being ruled out as the investigation progresses.

Cross-Border Smuggling Under Scanner

Security agencies have repeatedly flagged attempts by narcotics syndicates to smuggle heroin and other contraband into Jammu and Kashmir through routes along the Line of Control.

The latest seizure highlights the continued vigilance of security forces in countering narco-trafficking, which is often viewed as a means of financing cross-border criminal and terrorist activities.

The NCB said the investigation is continuing, and more details are expected as efforts intensify to dismantle the entire drug trafficking network.
